History

This department was founded in 1966, the first department of the school, and initially recruited five-year junior college program students to study for six years.

In 1992, in accordance with the requirements of the Pharmacy Association, the two-year junior college program was founded.

In 1999, it was reorganized into the Department of Pharmacy, and enrolled two-year college students.

In 2000, it stopped recruiting five-year junior college program students and changed to recruiting four-year college students studying for four years.

In 2002, in order to develop the characteristics of the department, the length of schooling was changed to five years.

In 2003, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology was established to strengthen the functions of the Department's research and development of drugs.

In 2015, the department was renamed to the Department of Pharmacy (including the Master's Program).

In 2016, the clinical pharmacy was established, and the length of schooling six years.

 

Cultivate goals

In line with the national health care and biotechnology development policy, the department aims to cultivate professional knowledge such as dispensing medicines, Chinese and Western medicine manufacturing, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy management, pharmaceutical marketing and so on. Furthermore, professional ethics, humanities, international outlook and work place adaption are out goals to cultivate students.

Teacher line-up

The department has 31 professors in various pharmacy fields, including 10 professors, 12 associate professors, 7 assistant professors and 2 lecturers. Among them, 26 have doctoral degrees and the teacher structure is strong.

Equipment

In addition to the teacher's laboratory, there are Chinese herbal medicine science research centers, student internship pharmacies, animal laboratory, professional computer labs and two audio-visual classrooms. 400MHz nuclear magnetic resonance instrument, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer, gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, luminescence and fluorescence analyzer, platelet aggregatior profiler, physiological multifunctional recorder, polymerase chain reaction machine, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), atomic analyzer, elemental analyzer, infrared analyzer, ultraviolet analyzer, expansion coefficient tester, acidity analyzer, ultra-high speed centrifuge and dissolving equipment and so on are built in the center for instruments and accredited testing laboratory.

Course planning

The school is part of the vocational education system with special emphasis on the students' professional skills. In order to provide student with enough professional skill to face the employment workplace, the four-year technical practice period has been extended to five years since 2002. In addition to strengthening the basic professional courses for students, in the fifth year, students will be trained for adapting their careers. Students can choose their group according to their interests and experience the relevant industrial environment in the employment workplace, such as hospitals, chain pharmacies or pharmaceutical factories, so that they can quickly adapt to the job market after graduation.

Grouped according to employment goals as follows:

Clinical Pharmacy Group: In addition to the general basic and professional pharmacy courses, additional clinical pharmacy courses, including drug consultation, clinical pharmacokinetics, clinical toxicology, clinical test interpretation, and full-semester to teaching hospital internship clinical pharmacy .

Pharmaceutical Technology Group: Includes techniques for the preparation of Chinese herbal medicine, biotechnology recognition, drug synthesis and purification. In addition to the general basic and professional pharmacy courses, biotechnology, industrial pharmacy, and pharmaceutical technology are required to be added, and an internship is required from the pharmaceutical industry or biotechnology companies throughout the semester.

Pharmaceutical management group: including the ability to operate community pharmacies and drug marketing. In addition to the general basic and professional pharmacy courses, additional medical management, pharmaceutical business management, and drug distribution management are required, and an internship is required from the chain pharmacy, community pharmacy or pharmaceutical company.

Employment outlook

After graduation, students can participate in the Professional and Technical Examinations to obtain the qualification of pharmacist, and obtain the qualification of pharmacist in public hospital. Graduates can apply to the hospital pharmacy as a pharmacist and to the pharmaceutical company as a drug marketing manager, manage self-employed Chinese and Western Pharmacy, work in the chain pharmacy as a pharmacist or work in the pharmaceutical factory to engage in drug manufacturing or quality control. License holders have a starting salary of about 45,000-60,000 NTD, which is 2-3 times higher than the average college graduates' starting salary, and there is opportunity for promotion.
